Resort Living at the Hamptons Farm Estate

For years, I have pinned over luxurious sun umbrellas seen throughout American hotels, and I finally had the perfect place to use them in! In the early stages of designing the Hamptons Farm Estate with our celebrity landscape designer Dave Franklin, we visualised a space to spend long summer days lounging by the pool. The outdoor entertaining space of the Hamptons Farm Estate was specifically designed to exude a feeling of being in a luxury resort. The furniture and fabrics we chose was also very deliberate.

We collaborated with Osier Bellefor their gorgeous range of outdoor furniture, that can be seen in every inch of the Hamptons Farm Estate outdoor living space. We have chaise sun loungers by the pool, two hanging daybeds, two dining sets and an outdoor lounge arrangement centred around the beautiful fireplace, all from Osier Belle! We designed our poolside umbrellas in collaboration with 3Beaches, and we used their extremely durable and beautiful Sunbrella fabrics. Why we chose the Architects Choice for our Hamptons Pool Fence

In Australia, we are fortunate to spend a lot of time outside entertaining and enjoying life. In consultation with our celebrity landscape designer Dave Franklin, we knew we wanted to tie together both the farmhouse and the outdoor living area to create a resort like experience. Our goal was to design a one of a kind outdoor entertaining space that exudes luxury and charm with a Hamptons farmhouse feel. We knew we needed a compliant pool fence, yet I was insistent that it shouldn’t interrupt the visual flow from the Farmhouse verandah into the gorgeous outdoor entertaining area. For this criteria, we could not look past The Architects Choice.

The panels are DIY so all you need are a few tools, basic DIY skills and a mate to assist – as the glass is quite heavy. The quality glass panels make fitting and aligning the gates quick and easy with custom hinges, latches and panels all designed to fit together.

For the Hamptons Farm Estate we have used the stainless steel spigots giving a frameless look with 1800mm wide by 1200mm high glass panels. The gate is an 890mm wide by 1200mm high, toughened glass and all the latches and hinges are The Architects Choice range, with a self-closing magnetic latch.

The overall look we wanted was seamless lines and clean, clear views. Allowing for the entire outdoor entertaining area to flow effortlessly from the moment you step outside, with unobscured views. Perfect for safety and elegant aesthetics.

If you are fortunate to have an outdoor living space in your home, whether it’s small balcony or blend of decks or poolside with lawn, creating an environment you can retreat into requires a number of essential needs.

Whatever your challenge, ensuring your outdoor furniture is truly made for the outdoors is critical. Your chosen furniture pieces and cushions must be able to withstand our harsh Australian elements.

When designing outdoor spaces, I consider these five essentials;

Continually storing cushions is not luxurious or indulgent, just frustrating and time-consuming – not to mention, your outdoor space looks dejected and half dressed. When you buy outdoor furniture, ensure it has been specifically designed to stay outdoors in all weather, including the cushions. It is an expensive option but pays off for an ever-welcoming zone to instantly relax in.
Another essential consideration is the size of the furniture. Too big or too small will always feel wrong and subconsciously awkward. Opt for customisation of size to ensure everything is perfectly balanced and made for the space.
When deciding on materials, be brave and mix in a combination of wicker colours, fabrics, timbers and pop in some concrete for a contemporary nod. This shows confidence in your styling and distances your outdoor setting from that one-stop shop showroom look.
If buying timber, make sure it is of excellent quality; ask to see the certification to ensure it has not be felled from illegal plantations and ask to see photos of customer settings that have been outdoors for at least one year.
Finally, mood lighting can transform any space into an enhancing, magical place to entertain and relax in. Lanterns packed with fairy lights create a beautiful statement piece and, if you put on a timer, you never have to worry about them being on to welcome you. Customised outdoor ceiling shades mimic what you naturally have indoors, further labelling the area as an extension of the home.
